As part of a multidisciplinary team, McMahon guided the roadway design process for transportation improvements along five streets throughout the City of Cambridge. McMahon developed a range of cross-section options for each street that included pedestrian, bicycle, and parking improvements. McMahon’s work also included grading design, traffic signal improvements for pedestrians, developing traffic calming measures, and new signing and pavement design. In addition, McMahon collected bicycle and vehicle date on multiple streets to determine the feasibility of providing on street or separated bicycle facilities.
The final design plans prepared by the team to reconstruct the various streets included American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks, raised crosswalks, raised intersections, bike boxes (exclusive bicycle waiting area located ahead of a vehicle stop bar), new drainage structures, landscaping, and green infrastructure.
