In order to address significant traffic backups and delays at the intersection, and as identified in the Township’s Act 209 Study, Upper Providence Township organized funding from various resources to complete the design and construction of a roadway widening project on Linfield-Trappe Road (SR 4017) Road.
The project included the installation of opposing exclusive left-turn lanes at the intersection along the approached of Township Line Road (SR 4014), as well as involved the replacement of the old span wire traffic signal equipment with a fully modernized traffic signal with pedestrian signal facilities and ADA compliant curb ramps. Additional improvements included project-wide pavement resurfacing, drainage improvements, corner radii improvements and utility pole relocations.
The project was implemented utilizing innovative funding resources through grant, developer and general funds, in a collaborative effort with PENNDOT and Limerick Township, in order to achieve the resulting intersection to operate with improved safety and efficiency for vehicular and pedestrian modes of travel.
