The Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan creates a safe and connected network to encourage active transportation – walking, biking and transit – to help reduce congestion, and improve both air quality and public health. McMahon led the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan to achieve those goals by identifying and prioritizing future improvements to the Town’s streets and walkways, making it easier for people of all ages and abilities to choose more active forms of transportation. To evaluate the existing bicycle network, McMahon completed a town-wide Bicycle Level of Traffic Stress (BLTS) analysis, taking into account existing bicycle facilities, vehicle speed, vehicle volumes, on-street parking, and transit service to rate corridors from least to most stressful for bikers. The plan identifies new and improved bicycle and pedestrian connections in Watertown and to the region’s larger active transportation network to help people get where they want to go easily and safely, and car-free. A series of public meetings and engagement with local community and advocacy groups will help inform the plan.
