McMahon has been retained by MassDOT to assist in facilitating the Road Safety Audit (RSA) statewide program. As part of this program, McMahon identifies the necessary stakeholders to each audit assignment, coordinates with state and local agencies to obtain and analyze relevant crash and safety data, performs field reviews of assignment locations under various conditions, organizes and leads audit meetings collaboratively with affected stakeholders, and organizes and presents information and recommendations developed through the RSA process to achieve stakeholder consensus. In addition, collision diagrams, crash summary tables and charts are prepared to identify and quantify the number of crashes per year, severity of crashes, and type of collision. Crash rates are prepared and Equivalent Property Damage Only (EPDO) values are calculated, which account for crash severity.
During the actual field visits, our staff look for deficiencies and concerns influenced by current conditions and driver behavior, assess sight distance problems and evaluate inadequate intersection geometrics to produce effective improvements with the RSA team. Other services under our contract include safety assessments, such as passing zone studies; safety project recommendations; and associated development of technical documents, including maintenance work plans, preliminary construction cost estimates, and specifications.
