AWARD WINNER! 2020 - PHIA/PennDOT Road and Bridge Safety Improvement Award - Roadway Category - co-winner

The intersection of Daleville Jennersville Road (SR 0796) and Old Baltimore Pike (SR 3026), commonly known as the “Red Rose Intersection”, serves as the gateway for traffic traveling between the US 1 Bypass and the many homes, amenities, and services that Penn Township and Jennersville have to offer. The intersection is well-known in Southern Chester County, with the historic Red Rose Inn prominently displayed on the northwest corner, which dates back to the 1700s.

In order to address significant traffic backups and safety concerns, Penn Township and local elected officials worked together with PennDOT to fund and implement the Red Rose Intersection Improvement Project. Design was completed by McMahon Associates, Inc. in 2018, and construction on the project was completed in 2019 including realignment, widening for multiple dedicated left- and right-turn lanes, corner radius improvements, traffic signal upgrades, pedestrian amenities, and pavement resurfacing. The project was implemented utilizing innovative funding techniques and significant Township resources in a collaborative process to achieve the resulting intersection, which operates with improved safety and efficiency for both motorized and non-motorized users.
