McMahon was selected as the lead consultant for design of offsite traffic mitigation as part of the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, MA. Plainridge Racecourse provides simulcast and live horse racing. The expansion of the facility included the addition of 1,250 slot machines, a three-story parking garage and a retail component. The facility has obtained the sole slot parlor license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts under the expanded gaming legislation of 2011.

McMahon conducted the traffic study for the proposed project and prepared the transportation portions of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the project.

McMahon was responsible for redesigning approximately one-half mile of Route 1, classified as an urban minor arterial under MassDOT jurisdiction within the study area. Major design elements include opening the existing concrete median to provide the site with full access to and from Route 1, realignment of the off-ramp serving I-495 southbound traffic traveling to Route 1 southbound, and the installation of two new coordinated traffic signals along the corridor. Dedicated turn lanes serving the site and bicycle accommodations along Route 1 were designed as part of this project.

McMahon provided the full spectrum of design services for this project, including roadway plans, profile and cross-section design using the latest industry-approved software programs, construction plans, and cost estimates and technical specifications. McMahon also coordinated with the site engineer to provide an on-site wayfinding signage program to help patrons successfully navigate the site after construction was complete.

During construction, McMahon was present on-site to monitor construction activities, and to assist in troubleshooting any construction issues.
